Renewable energy on the rise
Renewable energy is generally
defined as energy that comes from resources which are naturally found on the
earth such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides, waves and geothermal heat.
This green energy is growing fast around the
world. Developing countries are building more wind, solar and hydro-electric
power plants to meet rising power demand and combat local pollution problems.
And the costs of renewables are falling below the cost of traditional power
sources such as coal, natural gas and oil in some markets with high-priced
power.
Renewable power, including hydropower, is the
fastest-growing power generation sector and it is expected to increase by 40
percent in the next five years. Renewable energy has a great potential to help
countries become less dependent on energy imports.
India has set a target of 29.8 gigawatts in
additional renewable energy capacity by the end of 2017, taking its total to
almost 55GW.
By
increasing renewable energy, we can reduce air pollution, Cut global warming
emissions, Decrease dependence on coal and other fossil fuels.
Appropriate
government incentives can be an important tool to speed deployment and reduce
costs for clean energy technologies.
People must
strive to accelerate the availability and use of renewable energy.
